Darshan of Adi Kailash, the near-perfect twin of Mount Kailash, and Om Parvat — a guided high-Himalayan yatra with Sri Chidambaranadha Swamigal.
Rising near the India–Tibet border in the remote Kumaon Himalaya, Adi Kailash — also called Chhota Kailash — is a near-perfect twin of Mount Kailash, the abode of Śiva. For those who cannot cross into Tibet, it is the Kailash: same form, same power, same silence.
Beside it stands Om Parvat, where the sacred syllable ॐ appears naturally in the snow upon the black rock. The road is long, high and thin of air — a yatra for the truly resolved, and a nearness to Śiva few places on earth can offer.
Adi Kailash is a remote, high-altitude yatra (crossing altitudes above 4,000 m) requiring reasonable fitness and a day or two to acclimatize. An Inner Line Permit is required and is arranged for the group. Carry personal medication, sunglasses and sunscreen, and a valid government photo ID.
